Parking lot lights going dark is never just a lighting problem. Nine times out of ten, something upstream is causing the issue - and swapping bulbs or fixtures won't fix it. That's exactly what we ran into on this one.

The lighting circuit was being fed by the wrong breaker setup entirely. A double-pole 20-amp Challenger breaker was doing a job it was never rated to handle correctly for this application. We pulled it out, got the right 50-amp double-pole breaker in its place, and made sure everything upstream in the panel was set up the way it should be. The panel itself was a mess - mixed breaker brands, questionable wiring, and a underground junction box packed with bundled conductors sitting in dirt. All of it had to be traced and accounted for before we could confidently say the fix was done right.

That's the thing about electrical troubleshooting - the symptom and the cause are rarely in the same place. The lights were the symptom. The panel was the cause. If we had just replaced the fixture or the bulb driver, nothing would have changed. The lights would have stayed dark, or worse, the wrong breaker would have eventually created a bigger problem.

This is why real troubleshooting matters. We follow the circuit, check the panel, verify the breaker ratings, trace the underground feeds - all of it. It takes more time upfront, but it means the repair actually holds. No callbacks, no guessing, no parts swapped for the sake of swapping them.

Whether it's a commercial property, a storage facility, or any other site with outdoor lighting, the electrical system behind it has to be right. If your parking lot lights are acting up and nobody has looked at the panel yet, that's where the answer usually is.
