Power outages don't give you a warning. One minute everything is fine, and the next you're scrambling for flashlights and hoping the fridge holds out. That's exactly why more homeowners are getting a dedicated generator inlet installed - so when the power goes out, plugging in a generator is simple, safe, and fast.

Here's what we did on this one. We installed a 50A weatherproof generator inlet box mounted right on the exterior wall next to the main panel. That Leviton twist-lock receptacle is the real workhorse here - it's rated for 30A, 125/250V, and it's built specifically to handle the load of a portable generator without any risky workarounds or improvised extension cord setups. The weatherproof enclosure keeps everything protected from the elements, which matters a lot when you're dealing with California's unpredictable grid.

We also got a Nest doorbell camera mounted cleanly at the front entry. It sits flush against the wall right next to the door, hardwired in so there's no dealing with batteries. See who's at the door from your phone, get motion alerts, and keep an eye on the front of the house whether you're home or not. It's a small addition that adds a real layer of convenience and peace of mind.

Two upgrades, one visit. That's how we like to approach these jobs - efficient, clean, and built to last. The work at this Claremont home is a good example of what it looks like when backup power solutions and smart home upgrades come together without any cutting corners or messy installs.
