Here's what we were working with on this one - an old panel that had seen better days. Wires going every direction, outdated components, and a setup that simply wasn't built to handle modern electrical loads. For a homeowner looking to add EV charging, this was the starting point. Not ideal, but exactly the kind of situation we deal with regularly.

The old meter and panel combo had to come out completely. Once we pulled it, the full picture became clear - cramped wiring, aging breakers, and zero room to grow. Leaving that in place and just slapping a charger outlet on it would've been a shortcut that creates bigger problems down the road. So we did it right.

We installed a new Charge Ready main panel - the Square D unit you see here is clean, organized, and properly sized. Every circuit has its place. There's a labeled directory, dedicated breakers, and a service disconnect that meets current code. It's the kind of work that holds up for decades, not just years.

From there, we ran the circuit and installed a 50A outlet - the right size for reliable EV charging at home. That outlet gives the homeowner flexibility. Whether they go with a Level 2 charger now or down the line, the infrastructure is already there and ready. No workarounds, no adapters, no guessing.

Panel upgrades like this one are about more than just EV charging. More capacity means more safety, fewer tripped breakers, and a home that can actually keep up with how you use electricity today. If your panel is aging or you're thinking about adding a charger, this is the kind of work that makes it all possible.
