A lot of homeowners think installing an EV charger is as simple as mounting a unit on the wall and plugging it in. It's not. The charger is only as good as the electrical system behind it. That's why every install we do starts at the panel - not the wall.

We installed an Autel MaxiCharger AC Lite on this job. It's a solid Level 2 unit running on 208/240V at 50 amps. Clean, compact, and built for daily home use. But before any of that went up, we pulled open the panel to see what we were actually working with.

What we found was a panel that was already carrying a full load - AC unit, water heater, kitchen circuits, laundry, bedrooms, the works. Adding a 50-amp EV circuit on top of that without checking capacity first is how you end up with tripped breakers, overloaded wiring, or worse. We made sure the panel could handle the demand before the charger ever went on the wall. Two dedicated 50-amp breakers got labeled and assigned specifically to the Autel unit.

That's the part most people don't see. The charger looks great on the wall - and it should. But the real work is making sure your home's electrical system is ready to support it long-term without any issues. That's where our electrical troubleshooting and panel work comes in. We don't just hang hardware - we make sure everything behind it is solid.

If you've got an EV or you're planning to get one, getting the charging setup right from day one saves you headaches down the road. A proper install means faster charging, safer operation, and no surprises when you plug in every night.
